Cranky Interstate ride--Day 1 Trip report

Some 17 crankies and 4 support cars made the first leg of Cranky Interstate ride, from Simpang Ampat to Sitiawan.

It was leisure speed until we reached first pit stop at Bagan Serai. People started speeding approaching Simpang (entrance to Taiping town). We were almost halfway as we reached the 2nd pit stop at Changkat Jering. Some of us had some tea while waiting for support car, which has turned back to Simpang Ampat as it was discovered the roadtax expired. Eventually we continued without food until another 14km later nearby Sungai Terong

It was sunny ride after that, and riders start to feel the stress on the muscle. After the brief stop at Pantai Remis, some of us are exhausted and split into smaller groups. Situation is worsened by some rolling hills towards Manjung river. We stopped at the magnificent Manjung river bridge for photo and had a close shave where a car skidded, hit the bridge wall and overturned while trying to illegally overtake on the bridge.

We finally reached Sitiawan by 230pm. There are many Foochow people at Sitiawan and we have chosen a famous local restaurant for lunch. It was sumptuous and special, all for RM300 per table.

After the meal, most of the riders went back. Those who will be on full trip to Melaka went to our first Pejabat Belia and Sukan to get our priceless cert stamped, before heading for our home stay. At night we went for some hawker food and visited the famous Tua Pek Kong temple. That ends the first day trip.
