Sunday Ride--Jul 3rd Pulan Bunting

To accommodate and hopefully more cranky can join us, we have decided to cut short of our long distance trip this weekend from 130km to now about 95-100km.
This allows us to have good time to spend in Pulau Bunting to enjoy all the nice and beautiful view instead of rushing back. For those that think not enough, Johnnie has a secret route design for him at the end in SP.
Hopefully more Cranky team will be able to join us. (If you have decided to join the ride with PRDM with only 40km nia, go ahead too and I promise if this is a good ride, we will be back soon, but we do hope to see u this weekend)

Pengkalan Hulu Ride

We flagged off at 8am from Ah Hong’s shop in the middle of Pengkalan Hulu town, escorted by a fleet of scrambler bikes. We rode through cooling & misty tarred road with breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains.

Not far after passing Klian Intan, we turned into tin mine beside the main road. From there a small village road snakes through the jungle and soon we reach ‘Africa’. Yes, the orang asli we met have some similar look to African, although it is genetically proven that they are African. They are the original inhabitants of Malaysia and have chosen to keep staying in the jungle. They are the Na'vi (Avatar) of Malaysia and we were happily shown with their traditional sumpit used for hunting.

From ‘Africa’, we continue the winding road across jungle until we reach a remote thai village. Some villagers asked us where we were heading to. Upon hearing that we were heading to Tasik, they shook their head and said ‘susah’.

Indeed the road starting from the Thai village is susah. It is real off road trail through thick tropical rain forest. Elephants’ dumping and leopard’s footprint are found along the way. Oops, we were not suppose to say the name of animals directly, as per local pantang-larang. We would call them as big brother or Maybank instead. We climbed some hills and cross river for an hour before reaching a logging camp.

We spent some time refueling ourselves at the camp as the real up hill climb would start from there. The trail was not very steep but was the distance pretty long. Eventually, after an hour of ride, with a broken chain and some bruises due to falling down, we reached Tasik. It was a small new village near to Pengkalan Hulu. We had our buffet lunch at a local temple and most of us took the opportunity to clean our bikes.

At 2 pm, having refuel ourselves with the delicious lunch, captain Hong lead the pack and charged towards Pengkalan Hulu, our starting and ending point. It was a ‘fun’ ride that resembled more of a full jamboree and had brought us to close encounter with the aborigines, the jungles and the big brother. All of us enjoyed the ride.

Some useful info.

Here is the new information:-
1. All those that register thru Alberto (Oze shop) will have ride numbers from 180 – 270 (there will be a counter for us to check in from the serial #).
a. You still need to check your number from the website (or you check on the notice board on that morning)
2. On the 1st day registration morning, you just need to bring your IC and tell the person at registration counter your ride number and you will get you ride plate numbers.
3. Once ride is finished, please check out at the registration counter and provide your receipt (please collect from Barrack or Albert), to claim your jersey, goodies and cert.

Key message:-
Bring your IC and receipt (collect from Barrack or Albert)

If we collect for ourselves, we do not need to fill up any form. (Only need to bring IC and receipt).

The ride started off ~645am with 15 rides. After few km ride, there was a minor accident causing Ah Meng twisting his ankle. But nothing stop the redhot heart at that moment. Soon, after 10km ride, few questions started to arise regarding the route surrounding total distance and the altitude. John keep saying flat. So, the pedaling never stop and along the way, we have wonderful uphill and downhill. We passed through the misty area and made everyone feel likes riding in genting highland. Around 815, we arrived at the junction toward Sik. We waited for 15 min and after that we continued cycle toward Sik. We stopped at 55km mark for breakfast where 3 escapees continue riding toward Beris. We had breakfast and there were split decision on continue to ride to the grape plantation or u turn home. There were 7 opt to go and 7 decided to go home.

The magnificent 7 went on for another 10km ride and reached the grape plantation. They visited the place, tasted the local grape and juice. Took some good picture and enjoy the tour on the grape plantation. The worker was good and provide the team very good explaination on how to grow grape.

After 30min, it is the time to cycle another 70km home. It 11am and the hot sun awaiting. The m. seven never look back, we conquered the hilly terrain and reach desa aman in 3 hours with a mee goring stop at bukit selambau. Total cycled distance ~140km with average speed 27km. It was challenging but enjoyable journey especially to see and hold the grape by yourself in Malaysia.

Merdeka ride-31 August

it was almost time to ride at 7am but still missing few regulars riders. That could be because it is not a regular day. It is merdeka day. Finally, we have 11 people. We decided not to pursue the Junjong route but rather cycle toward Changkat and back to Batu kawan for the uphill. With not many fast riders, it was fun and smooth ride. A few sprints but just for fun and not intent to breakaway. It was control and just about good enough to get the stomach empty for a big breakfast. it is. We finished 27 glasses of water with 10 person. So, you tell yourself it is real easy ride or what.
Great day, great ride.

One shortfall, so dissaponited with Ah Boon's bike. The bike brokedown at the wrong moment where Boon can shown off his talent. i bet it is time for him to hang his bicycle at OZE and get a new one.

Sunday Ride 15th May--Jerai

today we have total 26 crankies who are come from Island, Butterworth, Simpang Ampat, Kulim, Jitra and Pengkalan Hulu as well, to ride up the Jerai Hill. We began the climb at 8.10am. Mr. Senyum arrived at 8.15am and started chasing up; This time Mr.Senyum comes with a purpose - to get revenge on his previous ride, finally he was conqured the hill...cheers!

Most of us(senior and junior) climbs up to the peak; the best time was 1:09, marked by Ah Wei, then Albert...CK(parit Buntar), and "the rest" keep on arrived one after another.

Showering by love and breads of their hubby, two of our lady crankies - flower and Soak Lee finally success to be at top despite ankle pain, hungry, tired...cheers!

This time most of us suffering in hungry and thirsty, duck soup keoy teow + 100plus was the only wish at the top there...

We ended the ride on 11.35am, everyone of us enjoy the ride.

Don't wonder why there is no blog update after the Kuala Gula ride. It is just me out of town and no joining the nite ride. So, nothing to update. I'm back. So, some brief story about sunday ride

We started from Tambun to Jurasic park. Then, we routed to Junjong, then to Kulim for din sum. It is a fun ride but not so relax as we still did ~60km going through hills, slopes and flat. But, we all have fun especially the Din Sum.

Sunday Ride Jan 17th----Bukit Lima Kongsi+CP1

12 riders total participated on the ride. The 1st route was same as last week. So, nothing new. Everyone went through smoothly after last week 1st ride. Mark was brilliantly cycled through the single track uphill at 110kg. He was the top performer of the day. After bukit kongsi, we went on to tackle the CP1(NT Jamboree trail) follow by the usual morning b/f at the malay store.

After b/f. The group was divided as the fast faster started to breakaway but finally everyone reached OZE safely ~1140am

It was not a good day for Tua Chiak, he had flated tyre 3 times for the ride. Barrack had chain broken as well. But, with Chief mechainic on site, no problem at all. Thanks Alberto.

Sunday Ride---10th Jan

Beautiful sunday morning. 7.00am We have 10 crank'y ready for exploration ride 3 Cks+ CK's brother, Alberto, Teo, Barrack, Tua Chiak, Bullet and Yeap. but we can't move as we still mising Wei Min. He was late. We were kind this time.(crank'y, pls be on time). Around 7.10am, we were leaving the way to Lima Kongsi. The speed was steady at 20+kmh and one weird thing happend where we have 2 riders detour and didn't make a right hand turn to Lima Kongsi. 2 riders go straight toward Tasek. We managed to bring back Ck's brother but another CK, too bad. He was on his own as he rided to far and we can't get him back.(riders, pls occasionally look behind to ensure u are with the group). We met with Halim and we go ahead with our exploration ride.

The trail was not far from Halim's house. we entered the trail right beside the school. It was not smooth as we were looking around for the correct route. After some trial, we managed to locate the LP club paper mark and with that, we managed to ride through the trail and came up a small industrial estate at relau.

The trail is single track and some area is pretty steep. So, it was challening but ridable. Downhill was not bad too. Only some portion u may need to carry but majority were good.

We finished the trail ~10am and headed for b/fast and fast ride back to OZE.

今日我们决定来个轻松的路程。应Cranky高乌区部主任阿康的邀请，一大清早6.30am, Crankies 一行十五人-Albert,Halim,Teoh,Wei,Shing,Keong,Lim,Wooi,Shyan,Keat,CK,Steven,Yeap，还有还有，这次我们来了两个少年Crankies- Jacky & Ghee Kheng，带着兴奋与期待的心情，浩浩荡荡的从新邦安拔与居林出发。

经过一个小时半的车程, 大家终于到达了高乌, 喜见阿康,阿良, little John 和今天的领队- En.Yusri 已等候多时。转眼间, 大家也都把脚车装好了,还等什么？出发啰!

经过高乌的街道, 我们进入小山丘, 沿着山路，迎面而来的是一片开发中的园地,接着是一片片青葱的橡胶园和油棕园。此时天气阴凉多云, 我们还担心会下雨呢...

大家在兴奋的心情下,呼着新鲜无比的空气朝着康庄且完好的小泥路来到了最高峰, 景色一望无际，一群人一边车大炮一边等待着我们的队花。当大家都准备好时, 我们开始享受一波又一波的下斜岭,犹如Jamboree般，真刺激！沿途给我们加油的, 还有胶工与开芭工人.

大约十时, 我们来到此行第二休息点，打昔村(暹人与华人居多), 阿康款待大家100号,谢谢谢谢.

之后我们以十五分钟的路程来到Gua Gendang，一个开放给大众作团队设立的世外桃园。此处有一座千年水帘洞，洞深800公尺，En.Yusri 说此洞保留完整与原始面貌，空气清凉，各类形状的钟乳石遍佈石洞中。既然未经加工的保留原始面貌，探险者必须涉水与攀爬，及须佩带照明灯方可。所以Crankies 们望洞兴叹，只能过其洞而不入，下回吧...

此刻，大家的五脏庙开始咕噜咕噜叫，好了，我们就往最后一站起航吧！轻松的经过一些马来甘榜与园丘，再经过西马第二大军营，我们终于来到我们的终点 - 高乌观音庙。今日是高乌观音庙年度哪督公酬神日，一阵阵的咖哩香味已扑鼻而来，实在是振奋人心！抵达时，酬神中，约三十分钟的休息与期待后，餐宴终于开始了，在村民热情的招待下，香喷喷的咖哩羊肉与鸡肉配上热腾腾的白米饭...哗..简直是完美搭配，人间美食，Crankies们都狼吞虎咽，添了又再添，吃得比哪督公还多，哇....赞！多谢哪督公.... 总理说此行甚愉，应纳入常年活动，将会把它带入内阁会议探讨，并寻求通过。

此程全长二十六公里，路程轻松愉快，凉风徐徐，阳光温和，实为完美。难得可贵的是“大只”没有破风！

Penang Fellowship Ride 1st Jan

It is history by itself. For the 1st time ever, cyclist were allowed to cycle through Penang bridge. Even better is we have huge support from crank'y riders on new year day.It was the attention from the media and camera crews with the striking jersey and the coverage of members. From youth to veteran, from featherweight to super heavyweight.

The ride was good and fun. It was around 76km with 2 major stop. The ride started on time and with good coordination from the organiser. The marhsall did a good job on coordinating the ride. Kudos.

Some crankies participated in last sunday ride klasik ride organized by MKH. Total distance around 80km and it is a good ride. Started of from new shoplot after the hospital junction and ride toward Bukit Hijau. Stopped for refill at bukit hijau before riding back to the starting point. All crankies managed to finish the route.

The race is over and guess who is the winner. 1st--Alberto with stuning time of below 30min. 2nd Tokun Hin. 3rd Tua Chiak, just merely 30sec behind Tokun Hin. The rest of crankies all enjoy the events and most hits their best time.

It is the beginning of the monthly event and expect Dec race will be more exciting with Bullet, Rocco and KY joining.

So, let's look forward for next month.

Sunday Oct 18------Pengkalan Hulu

It is a 140km+ ride but seen like it is 160km. The up and down along the way from Hitec park to baling is never a easy ride for beginner. Not to mention the 4km ride uptoward G,inas rest area before reaching Pengkalan hulu.

With strong beleive is never try never die spirit, we have a massive turn up at 6.00am monring, PC, John, Rocco and his cousion, Shawn, Bullet, Rocket, Senyun, wei Ming, CK, Alberto, keong, Tua chiak, Lim, Loong, Wooi, flower n her uncle, Halim n Boon as support car driver.

Minor delayed as usual and we departed 15min ~6.45am. It is great sunday morning and everyone is riding a steady pace understand it is not a 40km ride. After turning into sedim road toward desa aman, fast riders started to pull of with stunning speed like it is 10km to finish. Very quickly the peloton get splited into few gorup. Alberto and Keong leading the charge toward desa aman where we made the 1st stop.

The next turn is the long and hilly route with ~33km long. Again the fast riders show no mercy. They keep pushing and again the slower drivers falled behind. Alberto, Keong and Bullet very quickily pulled off a gap from the rest. Rocco, John,Loong,Tua Chiak n Rocco's cousion keep chasing from behind. When Tua Chiak almost catch the leading group, we had the 1st punture on the day, Tua Chiank tyre blown and we have to stop to repair. The rest of riders managed to pass through and we all meet at our second stop right about the junction before we turn into Balong town.

By that time, the delicious cheese cake from Michelle Obama is almost gone.

After that water stop and food intake, we continue the journey toward Baling, very soon we were joined by a group of riders from Pengkalan Hulu. They were leading us to G.inas and pengkalan Hulu.

After the brunch, everyone ready to go home. The sun getting hotter. For the rest of it, i will let the picture speak to it. Bottomline, thanks to Ah Hong for escorting the group and provide the support back to Kulim. Else, there should be a lot victims cralwing back.

Few left completing this monster trip. Heavy rain on the last 10km save the day. Tua Chiak have to give up due to tyre porblem. PC Tang with 10km to go also give up due to heavy rain.

Champion for the day. Bullet Tan for consistently riding fast pace for 140km.

After last week chick-viewing trip, this time crankies went to a Malaysian tourist site famous for its chicks- Kuala Gula. Kuala Gula is a small fishing in Perak, famous as a bird sanctuary for local and migratory birds.

13 Crankies started the journey at 7am from Simpang Ampat, in front of Oz Cycle shop. They were Alberto, Barrack, John, Rocco, Senyum, KY, tua chiak, Wooi & wife (let’s call her flower), Lim, Alex, Moy & Long. There were several firsts in this trip. Alex has just got his bike from Oz the night before and this would be his first long distant trip with us. It was the rare occasion where we had a lady rider with us. For the very first time, we had a support car, in the form of Alberto’s car. We later find this support car to be important and useful. The weather was nice at such early hours and we leisurely cruised at around 30 km/h. We followed the number 1 federal road, passing Sungai Bakap and Nibong Tebal. Not far from Nibong Tebal, we took a right turn into the road that would lead us all the way to Kuala Gula. The road was really nice to ride on- there were very few vehicles, very straight and flat with nearly no potholes to avoid. The only thing that we did need some maneuvers was to avoid some water trapped on the road following a downpour few hours before. Coupled with the cooling morning breeze, the crankies sped ahead, leaving behind Wooi who was on a ‘pato’ ride with Flower and Alex. After passing Tanjung Piandang, a fishing village famous for its Big Head Prawn, some fast crankies max up their speed again at 35km/h. They even speed up the majestic bridge that span the river Kurau at Kuala Kurau. We made a brief stop after the bridge, at the edge of an oil palm plantation, which made a perfect place to answer the call of nature. As soon as Wooi and Flower caught up, we continued our journey. With roughly only 10km to reach Kuala Gula, the fast crankies speed above 35 km/h again.

We reached Kuala Gula at 9am. The locals were just starting to lay out black sheet on the roadside for making dried prawns. We followed a dirt road that ran along a mangrove swamp. We didn’t manage to see any chicks, but we saw some locals catching fishes. We took some photos, and with the help from friendly local ah hia, decided that we would try to had some famous local food. The search for food was a short one, but it leaded us through the single track road town (well, single track for car). Wooden fisherman style house lined both sides of the road, with some of them providing a roof across the road, kind of special which I had never seen in other fishing village. We didn’t manage to sample the famous local food (crab mee hoon) but the place where we ate did offer some nice food (char kuey teow, kuey teow teng and fried eggs). The place doesn’t had sign board and was at the junction that leads towards the small but beautifully decorated roundabout at the village.

The sun started to shine and we quickly amass to start our journey back. We started at 25 km/h cruising speed but that didn’t last long. Soon we were on 31 km/h, leading mostly by Wooi, who has saved up lots energy during his dating ride with Flower (who decided to continue her journey on support car). Our support vehicles started to showcase its important role, picking up some riders down with cramp along the way. Somewhere after Kuala Kurau, we met Alex, whom we thought had abandoned the journey earlier. He was picked up by our support car as well. As we raced through another small township, we were amazed + relieved that our support car personnels had bought us 100-Plus and waited for us by the roadside, just like how a checkpoint in a Jamboree would be. Recharged by the isotonic drinks, we continued to speed away at 31 km/h. However, the distant started to show its effect on more of us. At 90 km , Senyum started to lag due to leg cramp, only manage to catch along at 27 km/h for the rest of the journey. At Nibong Tebal, barrack was also down with cramp and changed with some riders on the support car. John was waiting for Senyum and helped Barrack, and missed his chance to speed along with the rest of the pack, who started to speed again for the last leg of the journey. Despite these minor incidents, we eventually reached Oz cycle shop safe and sound at around 12.30pm, covering 108 km for the entire trip, with Rocco being the first to reach the finish point. The gang was indebted with the support vehicle team for their great help and was looking forward for the forthcoming long distance trip : 150 km Kulim-Tanjung Dawai

Trip report - Betong Aug 31st

It was Malaysia National Day and 6 crankies celebrated by cycling to Betong.

We departed 5.30am from white house. At Pengkalan Hulu, we were joint by some cyclists (Hong, Liang and brother, and two other cyclists) who were to become our tour guide of the day. It was a smooth ride from the border town to the immigration, the only hiccup being that some of us were asked to pay a RM2 'tribute' to the Siamese immigration officer for entering Thailand. Hong turned back at this point as he was still recovering from accident. Betong was only 4km away from the border and we had wantan mee as breakfast with some added strength- a Betong bicyle shop owner, whom Liang called as 'Siam Lo', and his friend. It is interesting to note that Cantonese was widely spoken at Betong and RM could be used as with the thai baht.
